UPDATE / CELL PHONES AT CAMP

Per Mr. Lamoureux, cell phones will be allowed at summer camp for the purpose of taking photos.  We want the scouts to have pictures of their camp experience.  Troop 20 and Camp Squanto will assume no liability for the loss or damage of any scout's cell phone.  If a scout is using a phone during an inappropriate time or in an inappropriate manner (i.e., texting, making calls or playing games), the phone will be confiscated and will not be returned to the scout until the end of camp.

Thank you.

IMPORTANT SUMMER CAMP INFORMATION

Just a few more important updates about Summer Camp which begins this coming Sunday, August 3rd.

Troop 20 will be at the Comanche site (the same site that we had last year).  We will meet in the main parking lot for drop off (there will be a sign noting "Comanche" where you should drop off the scout's gear before you park your vehicle).  Here is a map so you can see where the site is located in Camp Squanto:

Camp Squanto Map

VERY IMPORTANT - Scouts must wear their bathing suits to camp, as the swim test is one of the first things that will be done.

TROOP PHOTOS - We need a count of how many troop pictures will be ordered - you can either email me at castlebeckons@gmail.com or see Justin Wilbur at drop off.  Even if you have already paid, we are still looking for a final count.  If you have not paid, please pay on drop off day ($13.00).  Exact change would be appreciated!

UNIFORMS - Class A uniforms must be worn on arrival and to meals.

ELECTRONICS - No electronics will be allowed (cell phones, IPods or hand held video games).  This is a Camp Squanto rule.  The only exception to this rule is for adult leaders, who may have cell phones.

MERIT BADGES - Some merit badges require supplies that are available at the Camp Store for a fee; see below:
Leather Work kits:  $3.00 - $8.00
Basketry kits:  $5.00 - $8.00
Indian Lore kits:  $10.00 - $15.00
Woodcarving kits:  $2.00 - $5.00
Robotics kits - $10.00 - $40.00
Shotgun shooting fee:  $10.00
Electronics:  $10.00

SNACKS - We want to encourage scouts to eat the meals that the camp provides.  The Camp Store is available for souvenirs, scout gear and snacks.  Snacks can be sent along with the scout (we discourage junk food).  Snacks must stay in the troop trailer - NO FOOD IS PERMITTED IN TENTS.  ALL SNACKS MUST BE PLACED IN SEALED PLASTIC CONTAINER WITH THE SCOUT'S NAME WRITTEN IN PERMANENT MARKER ON THE CONTAINER.

MEDICATION - VERY IMPORTANT - If you have a scout who will be bringing medication, it must be the medication that is listed on the health form that was turned in.  Please be sure to send enough for the entire week.  All medications must be in the original prescription bottles and match what is listed on the form, and be placed in a clear, plastic, ziploc bag.  This bag should NOT be in the scout's footlocker.  The scout's name, Troop 20 and Week 6 must be legibly written on the plastic bag with permanent market.  If the scout is bringing an inhaler or over the counter allergy medications, the should be in the original box (the box can be opened if it contains blister-pack pills, as the medication name will be listed on the back of the blister-pack).  If the scout requires an inhaler or Epi-Pen, they will require two - one to stay with the scout and one to stay in the plastic bag with the camp medical team as a backup.   IF YOUR SCOUT IS CARRYING MEDICATION, A PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST STAY WITH THEM UNTIL THEY COMPLETE CHECK IN WITH THE CAMP MEDICAL STAFF.  If there have been any medication changes since your medical form was completed, you must be prepared to discuss this with the camp medical staff.  All unused medications will be returned in the plastic bag that accompanied the scout to camp.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me at castlebeckons@gmail.com.

Hope everyone has a great week at Camp Squanto!

Update - Krazy Days / Troop Demonstration

As a separate event from not the volunteer one listed in the previous entry), Troop 20 will be participating in a scouting demonstration at Middleborough's Krazy Days.  Each troop in the town will be running a separate demonstration in different time frame.  Troop 20 will be there from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM.  If anyone is available to attend, please meet Scoutmaster Lamoureux there (the location will be around the Town Hall somewhere - just look for the troop trailer) and please wear your Class B uniforms.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions, please post them in the comment section below.

Thanks!

Middleborough Krazy Days 2014

It's time for Krazy Days in Middleborough!  Help is needed to run this great event, and if any scout is looking to volunteer some time or get some service hours, this would be a great way to help the community.

The are a few different areas where scouts could help out.  There will be scout skills demonstration, and set up and cleanup for the event is also needed.

Please check out the link below if you are interested in helping out - it has the dates, times and volunteer opportunities:

Any help you can give would be very much appreciated!

Trailer Help Needed - This Saturday!

Progress has been made on the organization and inventory process for the Troop 20 trailer!  We need several scouts to come help with setting up tents, inventorying totes and general cleaning.  Please come to Mr. Swindle's house this Saturday, July 19th at 9:00 AM to help with this project.  We have plenty for everyone to do and need as many folks as possible to help out.  Many hands make light work and we hope to have this done in a couple of hours.  Mr. Swindle's address is 82 Miller Street in Middleborough and his cell number is (508) 245-4136.  If you have any questions about this project, please contact Mr. Swindle directly on his cell phone, or you may email him at markaswindle@verizon.net.

Thanks in advance - hope to see everyone there!
