Urgent!! Re: COVID-19 UPDATE

 Hello Troop 20!!

Not the kind of message I want to be sending out. I have just been notified that someone at last night’s meeting has had an immediate family member test positive today. A home test was done and that person has also tested positive. This person is looking to have a PCR test to confirm. We will keep you posted.

UPDATE— According to CDD guidelines, anyone who is fully vaccinated does not need to isolate/quarantine, but should:

1. Do NOT need to quarantine unless they have symptoms

2 Get tested in 5-7 days from exposure (day of exposure is day zero so Friday, December 10 is day 1)even if they don’t have symptoms

3. Wear a mask indoors for 14 or until they have a negative test

Troop Meeting Thursday 12/9 7pm-8:30pm Parish Hall

CONGRATULATIONS to Wayne Cash on passing his Eagle Scout Board of Review last Thursday. We are all so proud of you.

Hello Troop 20!

This is a reminder that we have a Troop meeting on Thursday December 9th from 7-8:30pm at the Parish Hall. We begin at 7pm so please plan accordingly.

1) Thank you to those who have paid their BSA registration fee of $72 for 2022. We ask that everyone else please remember to bring this payment to the meeting. The Troop is picking up the adventure card activity fee.

2) We mentioned there is a possibility for a ski weekend at Mt. Abrams near Bethel, Maine. We would stay at the Jackson Silver American Legion post. The cost for the weekend would range from $60-$120 for two days of skiing depending on the need to rent equipment. We need to know who wants to go the weekend of 2/25-27, which is the second weekend of February school vacation week. We can also consider opening this trip up to family and friends if there is an interest. We’ll need a $25 deposit at the meeting to lock in this date. Otherwise, we'll need to find another weekend that works for both us and the hall.

Troop Meeting - Thursday 6/24 7:00 - 8:30PM / Sacred Heart Parish Hall

Hello Troop 20!

There will be a Troop Meeting this Thursday, June 24th at 7:00PM at Sacred Heart Parish Hall!  Please remember that we line up for our opening ceremony at 7:00PM so you need to plan to be at the hall about 10 minutes earlier.  Please arrive wearing your Class A uniform and have a mask.

This will be our final Troop meeting for the 2020 / 2021 Scouting year.  We hope to see everyone on Thursday to close out the year on a great note.

Important Reminders:
1) We need medical forms for ALL Scouts, not only those attending summer camp.  Medical forms are a BSA requirement.

2) For all Scouts attending summer camp, we need your merit badge selections so that the Troop can register everyone for those merit badges.  A listing of merit badges being offered can be found at the following link:

Summer Camp 2021 - Camp Squanto:

Troop 20 will be attending Camp Squanto during the first week of August (Aug 1-7).
We have been assigned to campsite Sioux, which is down next to the waterfront.

Below are the policy changes that Camp Squanto has informed us of for 2021.
  1. There will be no visitors allowed into camp this year, so parents will be unable to visit mid-week as in prior years.
  2. The camp will not allow taking scouts in and out of camp during the week, other than for a medical appointment.
  3. All scouts must plan to arrive on Sunday.  You cannot arrive later in the week, although they can leave camp early.
  4. From a leaders standpoint, they will allow for one change of leaders mid-week, Wednesday, and they will not allow leaders dropping in and out of camp for visits.
  5. Scouts will be sharing a tent with another scout as in previous years, versus one scout to a tent as was going to be the case before the relaxation of the summer camp guidance.
  6. Finally, scouts can only bring store-bought packaged food items into camp, no homemade items will be allowed.
For new Scouts that have not been to summer camp before, below is a link to a document letting you know recommended items to bring, as well as what not to bring.

Medical Forms!

All Scouts and Leaders must have a current medical form on file with the Troop.  The form consists of 3 parts (A, B, & C) and should be updated at least annually.

All participants, in all Scouting activities, must have a completed Part A and Part B on file.  This applies to all activities, day camps, local tours, and weekend camping trips less than 72 hours.

  • Part A is an informed consent, release agreement, and authorization that needs to be signed by every participant (or a parent and/or legal guardian for all youth under 18).
  • Part B is general information and a health history.

For anyone going to summer camp, you must have Part C of the medical form completed by your physician.  A nurse practitioner, or physician assistant is also acceptable.  They must complete the actual Part C form from the medical document and it must be signed by the licensed medical professional.

You can download the current BSA Medical Form by visiting:

www.scouting.org/health-andsafety/ahmr/

IMPORTANT: Select the 'Download Form' button next to 'Are You Going to Camp?' to get the full 3 part form.

There is also a Medical Form Instruction document available.

Scouts should give their completed forms to one of the Scoutmasters to be kept in a secure location.  If you have any questions or concerns, please see one of the Troop leaders.

We look forward to seeing all of our Scouts this Thursday at

  6. Finally, scouts can only bring store-bought packaged food items into camp, no homemade items will be allowed.
We will have more information about what Scouts should plan to bring with them to summer camp shortly.

Medical Form Instructions PDF

Scouts should give their completed forms to one of the Scoutmasters to be kept in a secure location.  If you have any questions or concerns, please see one of the Troop leaders.

Reminder:

At the end of each Troop meeting, please hang around for a few minutes to help put away any tables and chairs and to help sanitize any areas that may need it.

We look forward to seeing all of our Scouts this Thursday at
Sacred Heart Parish Hall!

Troop Meeting - Thursday 5/27 7:00 - 8:30PM / Sacred Heart Parish Hall

Hello Troop 20!

There will be a Troop Meeting this Thursday, May 27th at 7:00PM at Sacred Heart Parish Hall!  Please remember that we line up for our opening ceremony at 7:00PM so you need to plan to be at the hall about 10 minutes earlier.  Please arrive wearing your Class A uniform and have a mask.

Also, please remember that all Scouts should be bringing their Scout Handbooks and backpacks to every Troop meeting.  For new Scouts, we can cover what you'll need for your Troop meeting backpack.

Summer Camp 2021 - Camp Squanto:

Troop 20 will be attending Camp Squanto during the first week of August (Aug 1-7).
We have been assigned to campsite Sioux, which is down next to the waterfront.

All of our Scouts who signed up for summer camp are now registered at the early bird rate.  Additionally, there's still a chance to obtain this reduced rate if a Scout brings full payment ($350) to the Troop meeting this Thursday.

The cost breakdown for camp is as follows:

  • This year, the Troop will be putting in $100 per Scout, reducing the cost to $390 per Scout.
  • Additionally, any Scouts paying in full this week will also receive an early bird discount of $40, further reducing your cost to $350 per Scout.
Please make all checks payable to 'Troop 20'.

Camp Squanto has informed us that merit badges will be offered on an individual basis and the camp should have a final decision on Flight-To-Eagle soon. We should have a list of all offered merit badges soon so that Scouts can pick which ones they want to participate in.

This year, Camp Squanto has informed us of a few changes to their policies.
We will have more information about what Scouts should plan to bring with them to summer camp shortly.

Annual Health and Medical Record

We wanted to remind all of our Scouts, Leaders, and Parents that it's very important that all Scouts and Leaders have a current medical form on file with the Troop.

For anyone going to summer camp, a pre-participation physical is needed for resident, tour, or trek camps or for a Scouting event of more than 72 hours, such as Wood Badge and NYLT.  The exam needs to be completed by a certified and licensed physician (MD, DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.

  • Part C is your pre-participation physical certification.

You can find the current Annual Health and Medical Record by visiting:

www.scouting.org/health-andsafety/ahmr/

Select the 'Download Form' button next to 'Are You Going to Camp?' to get the full 3 part form.

Scouts should give their completed forms to one of the Scoutmasters to be kept in a secure location.  If you have any questions or concerns, please see one of the Troop leaders.

Additional Information Regarding Summer Camp

We wanted to pass along some additional information regarding summer camp.

Mayflower council offers camperships for those Scouts who need some help with the cost of summer camp and we think these are open to both in-council as well as out-of-council Scouts.  If this is something that might help a Scout be able to go to summer camp, families should go to www.mayflowerbsa.org to complete and submit the on-line application for campership.  Once in the Mayflower website, go to:

Camping -> Scouts BSA Resident Summer Camp -> Campership Program

We don't know how many camperships are available so if you're interested, we suggest submitting ASAP.
