Committee Meeting / Troop Meeting this Thursday, May 2nd, at Sacred Heart Parish Hall - 6:15pm Committee / 7:00pm Troop

Hello Troop 20!

There will be a committee meeting this Thursday at 6:15pm at Sacred Heart Parish Hall.
We will have our regular weekly Troop Meeting from 7:00 - 8:30pm.  Please remember that we line up for our opening ceremony at 7:00PM so you need to plan to be at the hall about 10 minutes earlier, in Class A uniform.

We're not sure if our merit badge counselor's will be at this week's meeting so Scouts should come prepared with workbooks and their handbooks, ready to show progress.

Eric Grady - Eagle Court of Honor

Eric Grady will be having his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Sunday May 19th at the Town Hall Ballroom.  Arrival time and further details will be forthcoming.  Please put this on your calendar and plan to be there to celebrate Eric's achievement of obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout!
Troop Planning & Events:- Nantucket Island - We still do not have any news if we have been able to secure a camp site for Nantucket Island.  For some reason, this year, Camp Richard has been very heavily booked.  Mr. Holt is working on this diligently and we do hope to have updates, one way or the other, very soon.

 - Cape Cod Canal Shakedown Rides - We will be planning 2 shakedown rides at the Cape Code Canal, as soon as we begin to have some nicer weather, to make sure that all of our Scouts and their bikes are ready to do some bike rides this year.

- Murdock Street Campout - We are working on securing the Murdock Street campsite for a Troop camping trip where Scouts can work on merit badge and rank advancement.  Stay tuned for more details.

- Uniform Inspection - We are planning a uniform inspection at the Troop meeting on Thursday, May 16th to make sure we're ready for the Memorial Day Parade.  Please take some time to make sure your uniform is squared away!

We look forward to seeing our Scouts this Thursday!

Hello Troop 20!

Here are this week's announcements:

Our SPL has a new question for this week that Scouts should be prepared to answer:  'What happened on this day (April 25th) in 1990?

We look forward to seeing our Scouts this Thursday!

Troop Meeting this Thursday, 4/11 at Sacred Heart Parish Hall - 7:00pm

Hello Troop 20!

We will be having our regular Troop Meeting this Thursday, April 11th, at 7:00pm.  Sacred Heart Parish Hall.  Please remember that we line up for our opening ceremony at 7:00PM so you need to plan to be at the hall 10-15 minutes earlier, in Class A uniform.

We would like to remind Scouts that one of the requirements to move up in rank is 'active participation' in the Troop.  Missing meetings and arriving late does not count as active participation and may cause delays in Scouts moving up in rank.  This includes Eagle Scout.  The photo below was from last week's Troop meeting.  We know we have more Scouts than this and we should really be seeing better participation.  We understand that there can sometimes be conflicts with school activities and sports but if that's the case, you should be talking to the leaders to make sure we understand the circumstances.  Let's all try to be active participants in our Troop.

Merit Badges:

  • Scouts working on the Citizenship and Pet merit badges should be prepared with their workbooks to show progress and get requirements signed off if our merit badge counselors are available.

Eagle Court of Honor for Thomas Devine:

Just a reminder that Thomas Devine will be having his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Saturday April 13th at the Town Hall Ballroom at 1:00PM.  We would like all Scouts to arrive around 12:00 - 12:30PM, in full Class A uniform, looking sharp.  Remember, full class A is your Scout shirt, with all of the appropriate patches and rank affixed, your Troop 20 neckerchief and slide or a bolo from a Scout event such as NYLT, your Troop 20 hat, and your merit badge sash if you have one, with all of your current merit badges affixed.

Please put this on your calendar and plan to be there to celebrate Thomas's achievement of obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout!  A light luncheon will be served immediately following the ceremony.

We may be setting up for the Court of Honor on Friday but timing is not worked out yet so stay tuned.

Troop Planning & Events:
- Nantucket Island - It looks like the weekend of June 21-23 is full at Camp Richard so we're trying for another weekend.  We'll let you know as soon as we hear back from them.  Mr. Holt has sent in our campsite request, along with a deposit, so hopefully we will get a response.  Until then, we have to remain in a holding pattern and we cannot book the ferry reservations.  We hope to have updates very soon, once we can confirm with Camp Richard.

For any Scouts that have never been to Nantucket with the Troop, this is a great trip that everyone always enjoys.  We head over on a Friday morning and we bring over the Scouts bikes and camping gear.  We spend two nights at BSA Camp Richard and bike around the island, checking out the sights.

 - Nantucket Island Shakedown Rides - We will be planning 2 shakedown rides at the Cape Code Canal, prior to the Nantucket Trip, to make sure that all of our Scouts and their bikes are ready to do a lot of riding on Nantucket.  We expect these will likely be in May, once the warm weather sets in on a regular basis.

We look forward to seeing our Scouts this Thursday!

Committee Meeting / Troop Meeting this Thursday, April 4th, at Sacred Heart Parish Hall - 6:15pm Committee / 7:00pm Troop

Hello Troop 20!

There will be a committee meeting this Thursday at 6:15pm at Sacred Heart Parish Hall.
There will be a Troop meeting immediately following the committee meeting at our regular time.  7:00PM.  Please remember that we line up for our opening ceremony at 7:00PM so you need to plan to be at the hall 10-15 minutes earlier, in Class A uniform.  If you arrive during the opening ceremony, please remain in the foyer until we complete the opening, then you may join your patrol.

Merit Badges:
  • We will be having the Pets merit badge and the Citizenship merit badges this week.
  • For Scouts participating in the Pets merit badge, Mrs. Drass would like you to please bring in your workbooks so that she can check progress.  You are also reminded that you should have located a book or pamphlet on your pet and you should bring this to show as well.
  • Scouts working on the Citizenship merit badges should be prepared with their workbooks to show progress and get requirements signed off.

Eagle Court of Honor for Thomas Devine:

Just a reminder that Thomas Devine will be having his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Saturday April 13th at the Town Hall Ballroom at 1:00PM.  We would like all Scouts to arrive 30 minutes early, at 12:30PM, in full Class A uniform, looking sharp.

Troop Planning & Events:
- Nantucket Island - We apologize for this dragging on so long but we are still tentatively planning a camping/bike trip to Nantucket Island for June 21-23.  The dates are tentative because we are having trouble getting Camp Richard to acknowledge whether or not there is a camp site available for us.  For some reason, we have been unable to make contact with them.  Mr. Holt has sent in our campsite request, along with a deposit, in the hopes this will get a response.  Until then, we have to remain in a holding pattern and we cannot book the ferry reservations.  We hope to have updates very soon, once we can confirm with Camp Richard.
