Troop Meeting - Thursday 5/27 7:00 - 8:30PM / Sacred Heart Parish Hall

Hello Troop 20!

There will be a Troop Meeting this Thursday, May 27th at 7:00PM at Sacred Heart Parish Hall!  Please remember that we line up for our opening ceremony at 7:00PM so you need to plan to be at the hall about 10 minutes earlier.  Please arrive wearing your Class A uniform and have a mask.

Also, please remember that all Scouts should be bringing their Scout Handbooks and backpacks to every Troop meeting.  For new Scouts, we can cover what you'll need for your Troop meeting backpack.

Summer Camp 2021 - Camp Squanto:

Troop 20 will be attending Camp Squanto during the first week of August (Aug 1-7).
We have been assigned to campsite Sioux, which is down next to the waterfront.

All of our Scouts who signed up for summer camp are now registered at the early bird rate.  Additionally, there's still a chance to obtain this reduced rate if a Scout brings full payment ($350) to the Troop meeting this Thursday.

The cost breakdown for camp is as follows:

  • This year, the Troop will be putting in $100 per Scout, reducing the cost to $390 per Scout.
  • Additionally, any Scouts paying in full this week will also receive an early bird discount of $40, further reducing your cost to $350 per Scout.
Please make all checks payable to 'Troop 20'.

Camp Squanto has informed us that merit badges will be offered on an individual basis and the camp should have a final decision on Flight-To-Eagle soon. We should have a list of all offered merit badges soon so that Scouts can pick which ones they want to participate in.

This year, Camp Squanto has informed us of a few changes to their policies.
  1. There will be no visitors allowed into camp this year, so parents will be unable to visit mid-week as in prior years.
  2. The camp will not allow taking scouts in and out of camp during the week, other than for a medical appointment.
  3. All scouts must plan to arrive on Sunday.  You cannot arrive later in the week, although they can leave camp early.
  4. From a leaders standpoint, they will allow for one change of leaders mid-week, Wednesday, and they will not allow leaders dropping in and out of camp for visits.
  5. Scouts will be sharing a tent with another scout as in previous years, versus one scout to a tent as was going to be the case before the relaxation of the summer camp guidance.
  6. Finally, scouts can only bring store-bought packaged food items into camp, no homemade items will be allowed.
We will have more information about what Scouts should plan to bring with them to summer camp shortly.

Annual Health and Medical Record

We wanted to remind all of our Scouts, Leaders, and Parents that it's very important that all Scouts and Leaders have a current medical form on file with the Troop.  The form consists of 3 parts (A, B, & C) and should be updated at least annually.

All participants, in all Scouting activities, must have a completed Part A and Part B on file.  This applies to all activities, day camps, local tours, and weekend camping trips less than 72 hours.

  • Part A is an informed consent, release agreement, and authorization that needs to be signed by every participant (or a parent and/or legal guardian for all youth under 18).
  • Part B is general information and a health history.

For anyone going to summer camp, a pre-participation physical is needed for resident, tour, or trek camps or for a Scouting event of more than 72 hours, such as Wood Badge and NYLT.  The exam needs to be completed by a certified and licensed physician (MD, DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.

  • Part C is your pre-participation physical certification.

You can find the current Annual Health and Medical Record by visiting:

www.scouting.org/health-andsafety/ahmr/

Select the 'Download Form' button next to 'Are You Going to Camp?' to get the full 3 part form.

Scouts should give their completed forms to one of the Scoutmasters to be kept in a secure location.  If you have any questions or concerns, please see one of the Troop leaders.

Additional Information Regarding Summer Camp

We wanted to pass along some additional information regarding summer camp.

Mayflower council offers camperships for those Scouts who need some help with the cost of summer camp and we think these are open to both in-council as well as out-of-council Scouts.  If this is something that might help a Scout be able to go to summer camp, families should go to www.mayflowerbsa.org to complete and submit the on-line application for campership.  Once in the Mayflower website, go to:

Camping -> Scouts BSA Resident Summer Camp -> Campership Program

We don't know how many camperships are available so if you're interested, we suggest submitting ASAP.

Mulch Spreading - Sunday, May 2nd at 1:00PM

Hello Troop 20!

Just a reminder that The Troop will be participating in a mulch spreading fundraiser on Sunday, May 2nd at 1:00PM.  The work will take place at 16 Renwick Drive, Norton, MA.

Summer Camp 2021 - Camp Squanto

Hello Troop 20!

Hello everyone!  We're very happy to report that it's looking like summer camp will be open this year and Troop 20 is looking at attending the first full week of August (Aug 1-7)
at Camp Squanto, Plymouth.

For our new Scouts and their families, Camp Squanto affords our Scouts the opportunity to earn merit badges and participate in activities such as swimming, sailing, kayaking, crafts, survival skills, archery, and cooking....to name just a few.  It also gives them opportunities to build lasting friendships with other Scouts and build stronger ties with the Scouts in Troop 20.

IMPORTANT!  We are estimating the cost for the week of summer camp will be $490 per Scout but this year, the Troop will be kicking in $100 for every Scout who attends, lowering the cost to $390/Scout.

For anyone going to camp this year, we will need a $100 deposit at our next Troop meeting on May 6th. Full payment will be due at a later date To Be Announced. Please make all checks payable to 'Troop 20'.

We will also be needing leaders and adults to attend the week of summer camp in order for our Scouts to attend.  We do have some flexibility so that coverage can be broken up by nights or a couple of days, but we need a commitment for coverage.  If you can help provide leadership coverage, please contact any leader at the Troop meeting.

Additional details will be forthcoming as we firm things up so stay tuned.
