Committee Meeting & Troop Meeting this Thursday at Sacred Heart Parish Hall - 6:00pm Committee / 7:00pm Troop

Hello Troop 20!

We have a lot of updates this week

1) There will be a committee meeting before the troop meeting this week, starting at 6:00pm at Sacred Heart Parish Hall.

2) We will have our regular Troop meeting at 7:00pm, immediately following the committee meeting.

3) Mr. Devine will be teaching the Communication Merit Badge starting this week.  We will be alternating every other week between Personal Management and Communication.  The Troop calendar will be updated to reflect this schedule.

4) Remember that we will be having our Fall Court of Honor followed by an Eagle Court of Honor on Saturday, November 11th.  We need you to let us know this Thursday, how many will be coming from your family.

5) Troop 20 Trebuchet - We had a productive building session this past Saturday and the Troop 20 Trebuchet is well on its way to being ready for the Punkin Chunkin Competition at the Fall Cranboree (Nov 17-19).  However, we need some help.

First, we are in dire need of weights to power the machine.  Without them, we won't be able to compete!  We're looking for steel barbell plates that the Troop can borrow for the competition and we'll return them to you after the event.  We need metal plates in weights of; 25lb., 45-50lb, and if you have them, 100lb plates would be great.  Please take a look in the basement and let us know what you might have hanging around.  We can even arrange to pick them up and return them to you afterwards.

Second, we need pumpkins that weigh no more than 3 to 4 lbs.  They don't have to look great but we're going to need a minimum of 6 for the competition and then another 6-10 for testing and tuning the Trebuchet.  If folks could try to bring one or two to this weeks Troop meeting, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thursday, November 2nd is your last chance to support Troop 20 during the 2017 Popcorn Campaign.....bring your checkbooks and/or money to the Troop meeting to purchase popcorn at the last SHOW 'N SELL of the season!

7) Troop 20 Facebook Group - Mr. Devine has created a "Troop 20 Middleboro" Facebook Group so that we have a place to share pictures.  We will be putting a link to the group on the blog shortly but in the meantime, you can get to the group by following the link above.

Troop 20 Announcements - October 26, 2017

Hello Troop 20!

A few quick announcements that came out of our Troop Meeting tonight.

1.) Due to other commitments, the troop leadership has decided that we won't be able to attend the Turkey Fest campout at Camp Norse.

2.) Trebuchet building this Saturday, October 28th, at Mr. Pierce's house from 12-2.  4 Stacey Road, Middleborough.  We'll be getting some pizza for the scouts and adults.

3.) There will be a possible Eagle Scout service project next weekend.  Stay tuned for more information.

4.) Reminder to our scouts that attended National Jamboree this summer.  Please remember that Troop 1101 was a provisional troop and when you got on the bus to come home, the troop was disbanded and no longer exists.  We realize that it's cool to keep that memory alive for a while so what we suggest is that for jamboree, you were required to have 2 class A uniform shirts.  Keep the 1101 patch on one of those shirts but change the other shirt back to Troop 20.

Please remember that if you are coming next week for a board of review and you're wearing the provisional troop patch, you'll be out of uniform.

Troop Meeting this Thursday, October 26th, at Sacred Heart Parish Hall - 7:00pm

Hello Troop 20!

Here are this weeks announcements:

• Mrs. Swindle will be teaching the Personal Management Merit Badge.  This is an Eagle required merit badge so all Scouts are encouraged to participate in this merit badge.  Many Scouts may have a partial completion if they started this badge at summer camp, Merit Badge Mania, or a merit badge college.  If you have a partial already, please bring what you have completed or if you would like the refresher, start fresh from the beginning.  Mrs. Swindle will work with Scouts at any point toward completion.

• Upcoming Courts of Honor - We are planning our fall Court of Honor for Saturday, November 11th at the Middleborough May Flower Masonic Lodge, 46 S. Main Street, Middleborough.  Immediately following the Troop Court of Honor, we will be holding an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Alex and Julian Cassady.  As a reminder, we are asking all Scouts to please let us know if you will be able to attend.  Please see Mr. or Mrs. Swindle, or one of the Assistance Scout Masters by November 2nd so that we will have a final headcount.  We hope all Scouts and their families can come and part of a very special event in Scouting.

• Trebuchet Building - We are still planning to be building the Troop 20 Trebuchet this Saturday, October 28th, from 12:00 - 2:00 at Mr. Pierce's house, 4 Stacey Road, Middleborough.  Please come dressed appropriately for working on this machine.

• Popcorn Sales Update - Scouts who participated in Show n' Sells this year sold $620 worth of popcorn and received over $100 in donations!  REMINDER:  Popcorn Take Order Forms and all payments are due this Thursday, October 26th!  Please turn in your orders to Mrs. MacDonald.
•  Troop Calendar - Please remember that the Troop Calendar is provided as a pdf download on the Troop blog, in the right hand section of the blog page.
• Looking ahead - Next week there will be a committee meeting from 6:00 - 7:00pm, before the Troop meeting.

Troop Meeting this Thursday, October 19th, at Sacred Heart Parish Hall - 7:00pm

Hello Troop 20!

We have a few announcements for this week:

1. Our Troop Meeting will be at Scared Heart Parish Hall this week.
2. This weekend, Oct 20 - 22, the Troop is planning a camping trip to Murdock street.  We will have drop off and pick up times available at Thursday's meeting.
3. Upcoming Courts of Honor - Just a reminder that we are planning our fall Court of Honor for Saturday, November 11th at the Middleborough Mason's Lodge.  Immediately following the Troop Court of Honor, we will hold an Eagle Court of Honor for Alex and Julian Cassady.  Please remember to let one of the leaders know if you will be able to attend by Thursday, November 2nd so that we can plan accordingly.  We hope all scouts and their families can be present for this very special occasion.
4. Trebuchet building - At this years Fall Cranboree, the Troop is planning to compete in the Punkin Chunkin competition which means.......we need a Trebuchet!  And really....who doesn't need a trebuchet ;-)  The current plan is that we will be building the machine at Mr. Pierce's house on Saturday, October 28th, 4 Stacey Road, Middleborough.  As we will be using various tools to build this, we do need some older scouts (14 yrs or older) to help with this.  Adults will handle any power saws, etc.  We also need a plan to decorate the machine so the SPL and ASPL's should get with the patrols and come up with a plan!  We'll keep everyone posted should we need to change this date at all.

Important Updates For This Weekend!!

Hello Troop 20!

There have been some very late breaking developments that we need to pass along to everyone.

First, if any Scouts were planning to be at Oktoberfest this coming Saturday, October 14th, please note that the Troop will no longer be participating in this event.  Please do not go to the KOA campground expecting to find the Troop.

Second, for any Scouts that would like to participate in fundraising, the Troop WILL have a booth setup at the Middleborough Haunted Harvest festival, this Saturday, October 14th, at the Middleborough Town Hall, to sell popcorn.  Setup is at 8:30 and the event will run from 10:00am to 4:00pm.  Please show up in Class A uniform and see Mrs. MacDonald when you arrive.

Third, the Troop is planning to hold the Fall Court of Honor on Saturday, November 11th, at 4pm to award merit badges and rank advancements to those Scouts that have earned them.  The Court of Honor will be held at the Middleborough Mason's Lodge.

Immediately following the Troop Court of Honor, there will be an Eagle Court of Honor to recognize the advancement of Alex and Julian Cassady to the rank of Eagle Scout.  We realize that this is a Saturday but we do hope Scouts and their families can be available for this very special event to help us celebrate Alex & Julian's accomplishment.

The Cassady family will have food and cake available immediately following the Court of Honor so we are asking all Scouts to please RSVP to the Troop no later than Thursday, November 2nd, letting us know if you will be attending so that we can plan for the Troop Court of Honor and the Cassady's will know how much food to provide.

Troop Meeting this Thursday, October 12th, at Central Congregational Church - 7:00pm

Hello Troop 20!

Please note that our troop meeting this week will be at Central Congregational Church, 2 Webster Street, Middleboro.

A couple of items for this week:

1.  This weekend, Saturday October 14th, is Oktoberfest at the KOA campground.  Troop 20 will be there selling meat snacks and candy bars.  At last week's troop meeting, no one signed up to help run the table.  We need volunteers to make this work.  Currently, we have coverage from 11am - 1pm but we need more scouts to step up.  If we can't get coverage, we will cancel the table and we will not fundraise.  That means no money coming into the troop to help pay for things like our Nantucket trip.  We have more than 4-5 scouts in the troop and we need scouts to step up.  You can signup again this Thursday night.  We hope we get some troop participation.

2.  Please remember, our 2017 Popcorn Campaign is underway!  If you are in need of an order form, please see Mrs. MacDonald at this week's troop meeting.  Remember that scouts receive 35% of their total TAKE ORDER for their individual accounts!  Raise even more money in less time with less effort and receive 50% towards your scout account by creating an online account!!

We had a great hike this past Sunday at the Morgan Property with Scouts and Leaders from Troops 20, 96 & 64.  We hope to see more scouts for our next one!

Committee Meeting & Troop Meeting this Thursday at Sacred Heart Parish Hall - 6:00pm Committee / 7:00pm Troop

 

Hello Troop 20!  This Thursday, October 5th, we will be having a Committee Meeting at 6:00pm at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall.  Immediately following the Committee Meeting, we will have our regular Troop Meeting at 7:00pm.

Saturday, October 14th, will be the Middleborough Tourism Committee Oktoberfest celebration at KOA Campground.  The Troop will be there selling meat snacks and we're looking for help manning the table.  Setup is 11am - 2pm.  The event runs 2pm - 7pm nd Teardown is 7pm - 8pm.  If you're around, please consider coming to the KOA Campground, 438 Plymouth Street, Middleboro, MA to help us out.

Hike Today, October 1st - 1:30pm Morgan Property

Hello Troop 20!

Just a reminder that the weather looks fantastic for today so we are definitely still on for our Morgan Property Hike.  We'll meet at the Morgan Property parking lots at 1:15pm and step off at 1:30pm.

Remember to wear comfortable shoes, hiking boots are best as it may be a little muddy from yesterdays wet weather, have a day pack with you, a full water bottle, snacks, and your scout ten essentials.

Have your scout handbook with you as we may be able to complete some rank requirements while out on the trail.

We hope to see a lot of scouts there!
