Troop Meeting this Thursday, April 26 - 7:00PM at Sacred Heart Parish Hall

Hello Troop 20!

We hope everyone enjoyed their time off this past week!  For this week's Troop Meeting, we have a few announcements.

General:

1.)  We anticipate having our newest Boy Scouts at the Troop Meeting so let's welcome them to the Troop and make sure we have plenty of things going on to show them how great Troop 20 is!

2.)  Scouts working on the Communications Merit Badge should be prepared to show Mr. Devine any progress you have made on the merit badge requirements.

3.)  Any Scouts who have received their Technician Class Amateur Radio Operator License, and have purchased a Baofeng radio, if you would like Mr. Devine to program your radio, please bring it Thursday night.  It only takes a few seconds and can save you a lot of work :-)


West Point:

1.)  West Point Scouts mandatory parents meeting.  Immediately after opening ceremony, the leadership will be meeting with parents of those scouts going to West Point this weekend to provide additional info, timelines, and answer questions.

2.)  We will be planning to meet at the parish hall Friday morning at 7:00am to depart for West Point, NY.  Travel plan will be finalized Thursday evening so you'll know who you are travelling with before you leave the Troop Meeting.

3.)  Scouts need to know who they will be tenting with and will need to make sure to bring your tent home for Friday morning.

4.)  We will be stopping en route to West Point on Friday to get something to eat as well as stopping on the return trip.  Plan to have money with you if you wish to get anything to eat.  Also, there will be a Trading Post open at this weekend's West Point Scoutmaster Conference.  Items and prices are as follows:

• Ball Caps - $10.00
• T-Shirts - $15.00
• Sweatshirts - $20.00
• Pins - $3.00
• Patches - $3.00
• Vintage Memorabilia - $2.00

*** Please plan to bring money if you wish to purchase anything.

5.)  Scouts should be paying attention to the West Point weather forecast and making sure they have appropriate gear/clothing with them.  It may be a little damp on Friday so 'Be Prepared'.

6.)  Gear - On Thursday, we should be looking to optimize how much gear we have to carry into West Point.  For example, we should plan to share stoves so that every scout does not have to bring their own.  All we're doing is boiling water so we don't need a stove for every Scout.  This will save weight in your packs.  Scouts may also want to bring a small and lightweight chair if you want to have a place to sit.  We can discuss more Thursday evening.

West Point Trip Parents Meeting, Thursday, April 26th at 7:00pm - Sacred Heart Parish Hall

Hello Troop 20 Light Fighters!

We hope all of our Scouts going to West Point are getting excited!  West Point is less than a week away!

For those Scouts going to West Point this coming weekend, because we will be transporting Scouts as a Troop, there will be a mandatory parents meeting at the start of this week's Troop meeting to cover logistics, ensure we have all of the required forms ready to go, and to help answer any questions parents may have.  We will keep it brief, but we would like to meet with parents at 7:00pm at the Sacred Heart parish hall on Thursday, April 26th.  Again, this is only for those Scouts who will be going to West Point on Friday.  We have some information we need to share regarding departure and return times, contact info, etc.  If you do not think you can be there Thursday night, we need you to please contact Mrs. Swindle ASAP.  She can be contacted via email at:  sherriswindle@verizon.net

No Troop Meeting This Week

Hello Troop 20!

We hope everyone is enjoying your week off from School!  Just a reminder that there will be no Troop Meeting this week.  Our next Troop Meeting will be Thursday, April 26th.

The Backpackers will be camping and hiking this weekend at Camp Cachalot.  We are planning to meet at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall parking lot on Friday at 4:30pm for transport to Camp Cachalot.  We will return on Sunday, leaving Cachalot around 10:30am and arriving back at the Parish Hall around 11:00am.  Please refer to past blog posts for any trip details or for any information about food and gear.

We are not using Troop tents on this trip so Scouts should have their own tent with them along with proper backpacking meals and plenty of water.  We recommend having at least one quart with you, preferably two.  Please remember to watch the weather and make sure you have appropriate clothing.

Troop 20 would like to welcome our newest Boy Scouts who crossed over this past Friday, April 13th from Pack 20!  We are all very excited to have you join the Troop!

Troop Meeting this Thursday, April 12 at 7:00pm - Sacred Heart Parish Hall

Hello Troop 20!

We hope everyone had a great week!  We will be having our regular Troop meeting on Thursday at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall - 7:00pm.

Announcements for the week:

1) Scouts participating in the Personal Management merit badge will be meeting with Mrs. Swindle.  You should be prepared to show Mrs. Swindle significant progress in your workbooks.

2) Family Life Scouts - Please see Mrs. Swindle for a workbook.

3) The Pack 20 Crossover will be held this Friday, April 13th, at 6:30pm in the Sacred Heart Parish Hall.  There will be a potluck dinner for the event.  Please show up in full class A uniforms.  Remember, we want to look our best for the new Scouts!

4) On April 20-22, we will be having our first backpacking trip of 2018!  We will be at Camp Cachalot for the weekend.
Drop-off:  Backpacking Scouts should plan to meet on Friday, April 20th, at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall at 4:30pm
Pickup:  Parent should plan to be at the Parish Hall on Sunday, April 22nd for 11:00am.

5) Backpacking and Light Fighters should bring their meal plans for Cachalot and West Point on Thursday.  Mr. Pierce will be meeting with you to go over your plans to make sure you'll be all set.  There will be a signup sheet for this trip so please make sure you add your name if you are going.

Committee Meeting / Troop Meeting this Thursday, April 5th, at Sacred Heart Parish Hall - 6:00pm Committee / 7:00pm Troop

Hello Troop 20!


We would like to share a brief note from Preston's family to Troop 20:
"The Brown family would like to thank everyone who helped with Preston's Court of Honor on Saturday.  We appreciate all your efforts.  The evening went well, and our family really enjoyed it.  We also want to thank everyone who shared in our celebration."

We have a few announcements for this week:

1) There will be a committee meeting this Thursday at 6:00pm, before the Troop Meeting starts at 7:00pm sharp.

2) Eric would like all ASPL's and Patrol Leaders to please arrive at 6:00pm for a PLC meeting.

3) Mr. Devine would like a few minutes with all scouts participating in the Communications Merit Badge to check in on progress.

4) Mr. Devine will be meeting with the backpackers nd Light Fighters to go over backpacking gear selection as well as other topics.

5) Our first backpacking trip will be April 20 - April 22 at Camp Cachelot.  More details will be coming soon.

6) For the Troop 20 Light Fighters, West Point is coming up fast.  April 27 - April 29.  In the next couple of weeks we will post departure times, etc.

7) REMINDER:  Pack 20 will be hosting their Webelos crossover ceremony on Friday, April 13th, 6:30 - 8:00pm.  We would like to have as many Troop 20 Scouts there as we can to welcome our newest members of Troop 20.  This is a formal ceremony and all Scouts should be wearing full Class uniforms with Scout pants and sash if you have them.  We want to look our best!
