Hello Murdock Street Campers!
This weekend, Troop 20 will be having our first camping trip of the Scouting year at the Murdock Street site! We hope everyone going is as excited as we are!
If you're not going, we do plan to have frequent trips this year, as long as we can get enough adults to cover the 2 deep leadership requirement, so there should be many more opportunities to get outside and go camping with us in the coming months.
Drop-off time is 9:00AM Saturday and Pickup will be 10:00AM on Sunday.
The Scouts will prepare lunch and dinner on Saturday and we will have a very light breakfast on Sunday as we break camp.
The Murdock street site is not really accessible by car so we will meet out on Murdock street and the Scouts will hike in. We may have a support vehicle that will drive in with larger gear that the Scouts won't be carrying. The address is 40 Murdock Street, Middleborough. If you have not been to this site before, you should be able to plug the address into GPS. Here's a view from the street.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Scouts should have the Scout Ten Essentials with them. (Look it up or ask an older Scout if you don't know what those are).
- Please make sure you have your Scout Handbook with you. These weekend trips are perfect opportunities for the younger Scouts to complete rank advancement tasks and if you have your book, we can sign you off on things as they are completed.
- We are in the woods....bring bug spray. We have not had a few hard frosts yet so Mosquitos and Ticks will be sharing the woods with us for certain.
- We are backpacking in. If you do not have a backpack, please see one of the leaders at tonight's Troop meeting. If you have never packed a backpack before, please talk with the older Scouts. They most certainly have done this many times and they would be happy to help you with any questions.
- We have invited the Webelos to attend. Any Webelos Scout is more than welcome to come out and have a good time with us, even if it's just for the day, but they MUST have a parent with them.
- It may get chilly Saturday night so please have an appropriate sleeping bag with you and you may want a light blanket, just in case.
- Make sure you have a sleeping pad for under your sleeping bag. These help add some comfort on the ground and, more importantly, they help insulate you from the cold ground.
- Weather will be on the cooler side so please dress appropriately.
- ALL Scouts must have a FULL water bottle with them.
- Lastly, we are just going out overnight, please do not pack as if you're going to summer camp. You don't even really need a change of clothes. Just a change of underwear and dry socks.
The cost for the trip is still TBD and is for the cost of food only. Once we know, we'll post to the blog.
If anyone has any questions, please reach out to one of the adult leaders and we will be happy to assist in any way we can.
The leaders are looking forward to a great weekend!
