Hello Troop 20!
UPDATE: Location change for the meeting
There will be a Troop Meeting this Thursday, June 10th at 7:00PM at Battis Field, Jackson Street, Middleborough! Please remember that we line up for our opening ceremony at 7:00PM so you need to plan to be at the meeting about 10 minutes earlier. Please arrive wearing your Class A uniform and have a mask.
Also, please remember that all Scouts should be bringing their Scout Handbooks and backpacks to every Troop meeting. For new Scouts, we can cover what you'll need for your Troop meeting backpack.
Mask Guidance:
At this time, we are asking everyone to still bring a mask to Troop Meetings. The leaders are discussing whether the mask mandate will be dropped and will advise everyone as soon as a decision is reached. Thank you all for your continued support and understanding.
Camping Trip - Balmy Acres Friday June 11th to Sunday, June 13th:
We have received confirmation that we can use the Balmy Acres site for our upcoming camping trip. The site is located at: 10 Rogers Path, Middleborough.
Arrival time will be 6:00PM on Friday, June 11th.
Pickup time on Sunday, June 13th will be announced but we usually try to be out of the camp in the morning.
On Saturday morning, the Troop will spend a little time clearing some riding trails and then we will likely do a hike in the afternoon and work on rank advancement requirements. As this is not a camp ground, there are no established camp sites or facilities. We will work with the Scouts, especially our newest Scouts, on how to pick a suitable camp site in the woods or on the edge of the field.
Scouts should plan to have dinner before they arrive on Friday evening.
Food details are still being worked out but Scouts should plan to bring whatever they want for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. They should also bring something to cook for dinner on Saturday. The Troop can provide stoves for cooking. We're talking about making something for lunch that can be shared, possibly walking taco's but we will discuss in more detail at the Troop meeting.
Summer Camp 2021 - Camp Squanto:
UPDATES:
- We have received updated information from Mayflower Council regarding COVID status
for those attending camp Squanto. At this time, it looks like unvaccinated persons will need to have a negative PCR COVID test
less than 72 hours before entering camp.
- Camp Squanto has posted the merit badge
list and schedule for this summer. Please follow this link to see the merit badges being offered and their schedules. Merit Badges 2021
Troop 20 will be attending Camp Squanto during the first week of August (Aug 1-7). We have been assigned to campsite Sioux, which is down next to the waterfront.
Below are the policy changes that Camp Squanto has informed us of for 2021.
- There will be no visitors allowed into camp this year, so parents will be unable to visit mid-week as in prior years.
- The camp will not allow taking scouts in and out of camp during the week, other than for a medical appointment.
- All scouts must plan to arrive on Sunday. You cannot arrive later in the week, although they can leave camp early.
- From a leaders standpoint, they will allow for one change of leaders mid-week, Wednesday, and they will not allow leaders dropping in and out of camp for visits.
- Scouts will be sharing a tent with another scout as in previous years, versus one scout to a tent as was going to be the case before the relaxation of the summer camp guidance.
- Finally, scouts can only bring store-bought packaged food items into camp, no homemade items will be allowed.
We will have more information about what Scouts should plan to bring with them to summer camp shortly.
Medical Forms!
All Scouts and Leaders must have a current medical form on file with the Troop. The form consists of 3 parts (A, B, & C) and should be updated at least annually.
All participants, in all Scouting activities, must have a completed Part A and Part B on file. This applies to all activities, day camps, local tours, and weekend camping trips less than 72 hours.
- Part A is an informed consent, release agreement, and authorization that needs to be signed by every participant (or a parent and/or legal guardian for all youth under 18).
- Part B is general information and a health history.
For anyone going to summer camp, you must have Part C of the medical form completed by your physician. A nurse practitioner, or physician assistant is also acceptable. They must complete the actual Part C form from the medical document and it must be signed by the licensed medical professional. You can download the current BSA Medical Form by visiting:
www.scouting.org/health-andsafety/ahmr/
IMPORTANT: Select the 'Download Form' button next to 'Are You Going to Camp?' to get the full 3 part form.
There is also a Medical Form Instruction document available.

Scouts should give their completed forms to one of the Scoutmasters to be kept in a secure location. If you have any questions or concerns, please see one of the Troop leaders.
Reminder:
At the end of each Troop meeting, please hang around for a few minutes to help put away any tables and chairs and to help sanitize any areas that may need it.
We look forward to seeing all of our Scouts this Thursday at
Battis Field!
