Yesterday's Campout

 

Hope everyone enjoyed the campout last night.  A great dinner was prepared by the scouts, along with a birthday cake for some of the December birthday scouts - courtesy of Eric!

 

The cost of this campout will be $7.00, and you can bring it to the next meeting on January 7th.

Campout Tomorrow-TIME CHANGE!

The campout at Magee Cabin tomorrow will be on - even if the weather is snowy/rainy!  Please arrive at 1:00 PM instead of 1:30 PM and be sure to bring your mess kits - lunch will be cooked by the Savards and Gradys!

Remember - wear proper footwear and dress for the weather - it will be cold!

Camping Overnight on December 29th/Camp Norse

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!  Just a reminder, there is an overnight camping trip at Camp Norse this coming Tuesday, December 29th.  The Troop will be staying at Magee Cabin, but please be prepared for the weather - the temperature will be dropping soon!

Dropoff will be at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, December 29th, and pickup is promptly at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 30th.

I will post a reminder of this on Monday.

Tuesday Reminders

There will not be regular Troop Meeting this week.  Instead, on Thursday, December 17th, we will be having pizza and bowling at the Viking Recreation Center in East Bridgewater (if you need directions, please click here).  Please arrive for pizza at 6:30, followed by bowling.  The cost for the shoe rental and bowling is $7.50, and the pizza and drinks will be provided by the Troop.  This will be our last meeting until 2016.

Scrap Metal Drive - On Hold

Because of the low return prices on metal, the ongoing metal drive fundraiser is being put on hold until Spring, 2016.  Hopefully by then, the price of metal will rise and we will be able to get a better return.

In the Spring, we will re-address the issue and will post a reminder in time for Spring Cleaning!

Service Project Yesterday

Thanks to everyone who came out to help at the Murdock Street service project yesterday!  Great job!

Weekend Reminders

Just a reminder, there s a service project tomorrow, November 21st at 9:00 AM at 30 Murdock Street.  It will consist of doing outdoor yard work at the home of a long time supporter of Troop 20 and Pack 20 who is elderly and needs a helping hand.  Please bring gloves and a rake if you can.  If you need directions, please click here.

Also, there will be a hike on Sunday, November 22nd at Noon at the Morgan property.  Hike departs promptly at Noon.  Please be sure to bring plenty of water, your scout ten essentials and dress for the weather.  If you need directions, please refer to here.

Parking at Parish Hall

There is construction/paving happening at the Parish Hall parking lot.  Please be aware of this when you arrive for the meeting tomorrow night, as the rear parking lot may not be available for parking.

Wednesday Reminders

There will be a regular Troop meeting tomorrow, November 19th, at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall at 7:00 PM.  Also, the service project that was originally scheduled for last Saturday is on for this Saturday, November 21st.  For more information, please see this entry.

Weather Cancellation

Due to the forecast of rain and wind for tomorrow, the Veteran's Day Parade has been cancelled.

This Week in Troop 20 . . .

It's going to be a busy week for Troop 20!  First, a big thank you to all who participated in Cranboree this past weekend - it was a little chilly, but not as frigid as last year!  If you attended, please remember to bring $15 to the Troop Meeting this week.

This Wednesday, November 11th is Veterans' Day.  Troop 20 will be participating in the annual Middleborough Veterans' Day Parade.  Please meet in the parking lot of Town Hall no later than 9:30 AM in full Class A uniform.

This week's Troop Meeting will be held at the Central Congregational Church at 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 12th.  If you are scheduled for a Board of Review for rank advancement, please remember to wear your full Class A uniform and bring your book.

Lastly, there is a service project scheduled for this weekend - I am working on confirmation if it will be Saturday or Sunday.  I will post information about this as soon as I get confirmation.

Cranboree Pickup

Pickup for Cranboree is 8:00 AM tomorrow morning at Camp Norse!

Lost Items From Washburn

Washburn Island - Arrival Time Home

The scouts who attended the Washburn Island campout should be back at Parish Hall around 12:30.  They are just at the Bourne Bridge now.

Washburn Island - PLEASE READ!

The overnight trip to Washburn Island for tomorrow is on - BUT WE NEED AN EXACT COUNT OF WHO IS ATTENDING.  This is an approximately 3 mile trip in a canoe or kayak - everyone attending must be able to complete this kind of trip.  If you ARE attending - please call or text Mrs. Melchin at (508) 631-9194 by 7:00 PM TONIGHT so we can get an accurate count.

Also, the Troop will provide only water - no food for this trip.  There will be hot water if needed, but you must bring your own meals and mess kits.  There will be no paper goods or silverware - so you must bring your mess kit.

The departure time is 7:00 AM tomorrow morning at the Parish Hall parking lot.  Please plan on arriving no later than 6:45 AM.

Meeting Location Reminder

Just a reminder, there is a Troop meeting tomorrow night (October 15th) at 7:00 PM.  Due to the Parish Hall being used for Generations of Faith, the meeting will be at the CENTRAL CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH at the corner of Webster and South Main Streets.

Search and rescue weekend

Drop off time for Webelos Woods is tomorrow (Saturday, September 26th) at 7:30 AM at Camp Norse.  Please be sure to bring your water bottle and mess kit, and remember that it gets cool at night so please pack accordingly.

Pickup is Sunday morning (September 27th) at 8:00 AM sharp.

Help Needed - Upcoming Courts of Honor

As you know, Jodi B. has stepped down from the Ladies Auxiliary.

 

We need new members to sign up to help with the Court of Honor Ceremonies, and the Red & Green Banquet.

 

Having a number of people who rotate helping is the best solution.

 

For those unable to donate their time, we need people who can donate food and drinks for the Court of Honor Ceremonies.

Hike on Sunday

There will be a hike on Sunday, September 13th at the Morgan Property.   Please meet at the Morgan Property parking lot (see below) at Noon.  It will be a five mile hike, so please wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring water, snacks and bug spray.  The hike should last approximately two hours.

If the weather is unfavorable, please check back here at the blog at 9:00 AM, and I will let you know if the hike is cancelled. 

The Morgan Property is located off of Marion Road.  The directions from Town Hall are:

South Main Street to Route 28.
Left on Route 28 for 2 miles
Right onto Cherry Street for 1 mile
Left onto Marion Road for 3 1/2 miles
Right onto Long Point Road for 1/4 mile

The parking area is on the right.  A link for a map to the intersection of Marion Road and Long Point Road is here.  The parking lot, which will be on your right, is 1/4 of a mile down after you turn onto Long Point Road.

Scoutmaster Specific Training

If any parent is interested in becoming an Assistant Scoutmaster, Parts A & B training will be held on September 26th at Camp Norse.  Last day to register for this training is September 25th.

Sacred Heart Food Pantry 5K Run/Walk

The Annual Sacred Heart Food Pantry 5K will be held on Sunday, September 27th.  Please see the below information from Mr. Amber regarding the event.  The Troop will be manning a water station, but please consider registering as a participant to help with this great cause!


On September 27, 2015 our 4rd Annual St Vincent de Paul Food Pantry 5K Run/Walk will take place at Nichols Middle School in Middleboro.  

I am writing to invite you and members of your scout troop to join us!  What better way to show team spirit and build team morale than working together to help a very special cause. You can show team pride by wearing your uniforms, shirts, or team colors!  Recruit family members and friends to join your team for this event.  The Food Pantry 5K Run/Walk is an important fundraising effort supporting Saint Vincent de Paul and its Sacred Heart Food Pantry. It provides an opportunity for your students to participate in the mission of feeding the hungry in the communities where they live, while raising awareness of the challenges faced daily by those requiring assistance. Many of those receiving a helping hand are classmates and possibly even members of your troop. Students participating in athletics endeavors should be able to easily walk, jog, or run the three mile course; it is not too long or too difficult. Last year several children under the age of six successfully completed the entire route with no problems.  

Each month the Sacred Heart Food Pantry provides food and other critical assistance to nearly 500 families.  During the past 12 months the pantry distributed more than 750,000 lbs. of food to more than 1,000 households in Middleboro, Lakeville, Carver, and Rochester.Fundraising can be a team effort too!  Set a team goal and work together to reach that goal.  All of the registration information, including fundraising tips can be found on the Food Pantry 5K web site at www.foodpantry5k.org.   It is easy to do and you can be certain that 100% of every gift made to the 5K Run/Walk will go directly towards assisting those in need in our immediate community. Please, become a partner and lend a helping hand.  Your support means so much to those needing assistance. This need is greater than any individual should have to face alone.

Help Needed - Eagle Project

Ben Carey will be working on his Eagle Project this upcoming weekend, Saturday August 29th and Sunday, August 30th  The project will start both days at 9:30 at Middleborough High School. The project is to renovate the Middleborough High School weight room, so all volunteers should enter through the gym side of the school (near the red barn).  There will be painting involved, so make sure to dress appropriately.  The goal is to fully complete the project this weekend, so any help will be greatly appreciated.
